Pre-Purchase Inspection Checklist for Used Cars in Abu Dhabi
Before you pay for a used car in Abu Dhabi, have it inspected by a workshop you trust. A test drive shows only a small part of the car’s condition. A full inspection can find problems that would cost you much more after you buy.

Use this checklist to know what a good inspection covers. You can use it yourself for a first look, then book a full check at Speedex Auto Workshop in Musaffah.
Why inspect before you buy
- A used car may have hidden accident damage, mechanical wear or electrical faults.
- The seller may not know the car’s full history.
- A small repair cost found before purchase can help you negotiate the price, or walk away.
The checklist
1. Paperwork and history
- Registration, ownership and service records match the car.
- Chassis number matches the documents.
- Mileage looks reasonable for the age and condition.
- Ask for accident and repair history.
2. Engine and fluids
- Starts easily, idles smoothly, no knocking or smoke.
- Oil level and colour are normal; no milky oil or coolant mixing.
- No oil, coolant or fluid leaks under the car.
- Belts and hoses are not cracked.
3. Gearbox and drivetrain
- Gears change smoothly with no jerking or delay.
- No whining, clunks or slipping.
- Clutch (manual) bites at a normal point.
4. Air conditioning
- Cold air at all fan speeds.
- Compressor engages and no strange noises.
- AC still cold after the car has been idling for several minutes.
5. Electrical system
- Battery condition and charging system test.
- Windows, locks, mirrors, lights, wipers and infotainment work.
- No warning lights on the dashboard after start.
- A scan for stored fault codes.
6. Suspension, steering and brakes
- Car tracks straight and steering is firm.
- No knocking over bumps.
- Brake pads and discs are in good condition; pedal feels firm.
7. Tyres and wheels
- Even wear across each tyre; no bulges.
- Tyre age and tread depth are acceptable.
- Matching tyres on the same axle.
8. Body and paint
- Panel gaps are even; paint colour is consistent.
- No signs of re-spray, filler or rust.
- Check door edges, bumper and boot floor for repair marks.
9. Interior
- Seats, belts, airbags and trim are in good condition.
- No water stains, damp smell or mud under carpets.
Warning signs to walk away
- The seller does not allow an inspection.
- Odometer or service history does not match.
- Signs of flood damage or major structural repair.
- Engine, gearbox or airbag faults the seller cannot explain.
